Job Description

The Accommodation Needs Assessment Officer is responsible for assessing housing needs, supporting individuals and families seeking accommodation, and ensuring that services are delivered in line with statutory obligations and organizational policies. This role plays a key part in identifying housing solutions, preventing homelessness, and promoting access to safe, sustainable, and suitable housing.
Key Responsibilities

Conduct detailed housing and support needs assessments for applicants, including face-to-face interviews, home visits, and document reviews.

Evaluate eligibility for housing services in line with legislation, policy, and guidance.

Develop individualized accommodation plans, identifying short- and long-term housing options.

Provide advice and guidance on housing rights, responsibilities, and available support services.

Work collaboratively with local authorities, housing associations, landlords, and support providers to secure suitable accommodation.

Identify safeguarding concerns and refer to appropriate services where necessary.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records, ensuring compliance with data protection and organizational policies.

Monitor and review accommodation placements to ensure suitability and sustainability.

Contribute to the development of housing strategies and policies through casework insights.

Support clients in accessing welfare benefits, financial advice, and additional services that promote tenancy sustainment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of housing legislation, homelessness law, and statutory guidance.
  • Experience in conducting assessments and developing support or action plans.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding principles and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with the ability to build positive working relationships.
  • Ability to manage a caseload effectively, prioritize competing demands, and meet deadlines.
  • IT literacy, including case management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
